Update - Apple TV - Hulu+

Good evening...

Today's Recommendation

HULU PLUS

What is Hulu Plus?

Hulu Plus, a monthly subscription service, was launched in beta (preview) on June 29, 2010 and officially launched on November 17, 2010. It is a website and over-the-top (OTT) subscription service offering ad-supported on-demand streaming video of TV shows, movies, webisodes and other new media, trailers, clips, and behind-the-scenes footage from NBCFoxABCCBSNickelodeon, and many other networks and studios. Similar to Netflix, it offers unlimited movies and dramas for the price of USD7.99 per month.

What is the Update?

For those who are not aware, Apple has quietly updated the list of apps in the Apple TV and the latest update include Hulu Plus. And for those who do not want to use netflix, you can opt for this service instead. You will get a 1 week trial upon registration. But remember, you will need to key in your billing information and if should you forgot to cancel the trial, you will be charge automatically.

How to use the apps?

Again, Malaysian will not be able to watch Hulu Plus since its only for US citizens only. So, in order to use the apps you MUST HAVE a VPN service. I mentioned this in my previous post about netflix. The one I'm currently using is UNBLOCK-US . Those who are new to it can opt to register for a free trial through the website and after activating the service, you can then go to your Apple TV to start your Hulu Plus app. But make sure your location are set to United States in the settings. The difference between Netflix app and Hulu Plus app is that, for Hulu Plus, you can choose to pay using your US iTunes account. However, you need to make sure there are credit in your accounts.

Enjoy and Cheers...

Rumours - iPhone 5 and iPad Mini

An article to share, brought to you from Mac Rumours

Front facing of the reported design

iMore reports that they have heard that the next generation iPhone, new iPod nano, and all new 7.85" iPad mini will be announced on September 12th. They also pinpoint the actual launch date for the next iPhone as September 21, 2012.
iMore has heard that Apple is planning to debut the new iPhone at a special event on Wednesday, September 12, 2012, with the release date to follow 9 days later on Friday, September 21. This information comes from sources who have proven accurate in the past.
The next-generation iPhone, which is frequently referred to as the "iPhone 5", is expected to have a taller 4" screen as shown in the above photo. Rumors have also suggested the inclusion of high speed LTE wireless networking.

While we generally refer to the next iPhone as the "iPhone 5", if Apple follows the example of their most recent iPad release, they may drop the numbering scheme with every new iPhone release. The 3rd generation iPad was simply called "the new iPad" in all press materials. Similarly, it seems likely that Apple will simply refer to the next iPhone as "the new iPhone".

While the 7.85" iPad mini has been long rumored, there has been a notable increase in the frequency and volume of rumors related to the product. The smaller iPad is believed to help Apple fill a cheaper price point in their tablet lineup.

iMore has been an accurate source of release date information in the past. They previously pinpointed the iPad 3 launch date as well as pre-order date for the iPhone 4S.

Android User - Where's my Jelly Bean??

The BEST UPDATES so far for Android phone?
Stay Tune for the Android 4.1 a.k.a. Jelly Bean.

Some of you might already updated to 4.1 via unofficial updates but for those who wanted to wait for the official updates... Check and see if your phone is eligible...

Samsung

Samsung has already issued the following statement regarding upgrades to new versions of the Android OS – although unfortunately it doesn't give us any clues on when we may see Jelly Bean land on devices, or indeed which ones will get it.
"In the case that a new version of an Android operating system is publicly announced and released, Samsung will review the possibility of implementation to existing Samsung products with the Android operating system ('Update').
"Such a review will be based on various factors including, the overall effect of the update to Samsung products, the system requirements, the structural limitations, and the level of cooperation from the component suppliers and the software licensors.
"If Samsung decides to make the update available to the users it will be released upon successful completion of development."
Google though confirmed in its keynote that Android 4.1 would be coming to the Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus in mid-July.

HTC
HTC has announced it will be bringing Jelly Bean to at least three of its models, which is good news for those that like newer handsets:
"We know HTC fans are excited to get their hands on Google's latest version of Android. At this point in time, we can confirm that we have plans to upgrade our HTC One X, HTC One XL and HTC One S to Jelly Bean," am HTC spokesperson told us.
"Please stay tuned for more updates regarding device upgrades, timing and other details about HTC and Jelly Bean."

MOTOROLA
Motorola has confirmed that it has not released its plans regarding the Jelly Bean update yet.
However Google said it was planning on getting Jelly Bean onto the Xoom tablet in July.

LG Mobile
Back in February at MWC 2012, we spoke to LG regarding the Jelly Bean update and the manufacturer confirmed it would guarantee an upgradeto Android Jelly Bean for all compatible 2012 handsets.
We will have to wait and see if it delivers on that promise.
Update: A spokesperson for the firm has told TechRadar: "LG will continue to support the latest android platforms, across LG devices however at present an exact date is not yet confirmed."
Update 2: Sources at LG tell the relevant phones in the range will be updated to Jelly Bean by Q1 2013, with the roll out beginning in Q4.

The Rest of the Brands
No Updates yet.

Introducing Kindle Touch E-Reader

KINDLE TOUCH
from
AMAZON

Introducing the latest gadget in my collection.
What you see are what I got. From unboxing to the attached accessories. Again, Im not going to do a full review as I think those googled review are much much better compare to what I am capable of. So I  just write down the what actually convince me to spend on it.

As an intro, I never thought I will ever buy a e-reader.

Reasons:
1. I'm more to a book-on-hand person. I prefer to touch and feel an actual book!
2. I tried ibooks on Apple Ipad and iPhone but failed to impress me. Actually, the other apps in the idevices interests me more. (Games, Movies, Musics, etc....)
3. Expensive for a e-reader since need to fly all the way from United States. (USD99 + Tax + International Shipping) Price not justifiable at all.

But, on the other hand, due to my nature of job that required me to bring a bag full of materials, that means I do not have the privilege to stuck in another 5 inches thick book into it. And most of the books that interests me are those thick books! So after thinking about it for sometime, I decided to get an e-reader and see if it suits me. And since Kindle is the only one that I knew, i bought a unit from a reseller in KL. (its's more convenient to get than going all the way to www.amazon.com to get one)

Before I met up with this guy, I was still thinking should I just call off the transaction before he turned up? Is it really worth the money? I was thinking, both Ipad and Android tablet failed to impress me with their ebook's apps. And this Kindle only comes with a non-coloured 6" tablet size! But oh boy... I was so wrong..

After trying it for few days, I totally fell in love with this baby. In 3 days, I managed to complete 3 books and now downloading more (for Free). I bring it everywhere I go and whenever I got time, I just took it out from my bag and start reading. (it's only weighed 213gm). It's so convenient. And did I mentioned Ipad ibooks failed me? I finally figured out the reasons. First, being too colourful makes my eyes tired after prolonged reading and there are too much temptation since ipad got so many apps to play with... That's why I never going to finish a PAGE!! So with this Kindle, I can only use it to read, and read and READ. Nothing else. I became more focus and this allows me to read more than to play more games.

So I highly recommend this baby for those who:

1. Likes reading books.
2. Do not mind paying for a books even though you are not allowed to claim for tax relief. (hopefully our government will allowed this soon)
3. Finds Ipad and Android Tablets got too many apps and thus refrain you to read.
AND
4. DO NOT MIND PAYING FOR AN E-READER THAT COST approx. RM500!!!

That's all I can say for now.. Cheers and again, please welcome kindle touch to my family of gadgets!!!

p/s: For those who are interested to get one, kindly contact me and see if I can help.

Apple TV - Watching Netflix in Malaysia -

You probably heard about it but any idea what is this?
According to the company press release, Netflix:-

Netflix revolutionizes the way people watch TV shows and movies

With more than 26 million streaming members in the United States, Canada, Latin America, the United Kingdom and Ireland, Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ: NFLX) is the world's leading internet subscription service for enjoying movies and TV programs. For about US$7.99 a month, Netflix members can instantly watch movies and TV programs streamed over the internet to PCs, Macs and TVs. Among the large and expanding base of devices streaming from Netflix are the Microsoft Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii and Sony PS3 consoles; an array of Blu-ray disc players, internet-connected TVs, home theatre systems, digital video recorders and internet video players; Apple iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, as well as Apple TV and Google TV. In all, over 800 devices that stream from Netflix are available. For additional information, visit www.netflix.com. Follow Netflix on Facebook and Twitter.
But try going to their website and sign up for the service, You will be prompt that the service is not available in our country yet. So the BIG QUESTION is, how can we watch?
In order to be watching netflix from Malaysia, first you will need to get a VPN (Virtual Private Network). What is this and how it works? (those curious to know more can go to http://www.howstuffworks.com/vpn.htm ). There are a lot of VPN provider and the one I have tried and tested and still using now would be Unblock-Us ( Unblock-US VPN ). It's a subscription based service but trust me, it never failed me and my family. And it's reasonable. You can get a free 1-week trial and if you are dissatisfied, just cancel it without paying. You can get more info by going to the link. ( Unblock-US ).
After you managed to register the VPN, switch it ON and go to www.netflix.com to register for your free 1-month trial and get to watch unlimited movies online. You can watch it using your Apple TV but you will need to change the location to United States. All you need to do is go to Settings>General>Locations>Unites States. After that, you will able to see netflix on the main page. Go to it and login using your registered netflix account.
That's all. What else I can say? Just ENJOY your movies.

Apple TV 3rd Generation in Malaysia

Apple TV 3rd Generation

What is it that creates such a HYPE in Malaysia when it launched? Almost all Apple Reseller are out of stocks!

Apple TV is a tiny entertainment powerhouse that plays the content you love from iTunes, Netflix, YouTube, and your favorite sports leagues on your widescreen TV. In up to 1080p HD. Just plug it in and discover a whole world of movies, TV shows, photos, music, and more. You’re gonna need a better couch.
Just google "Apple TV" and you will find tonnes of information about this beauty. But apart from using it for iTunes, YouTube and Airplay, you will find a lot of restriction in Malaysia as we currently do not have access to Netflix, Hulu+, MLB.com, NHL.com, and others.

For those using older generation Apple TV (ATV 1 or ATV2), you will find yourself lucky as you can actually jailbreak your unit to get access to much more features and unlimited movies for FREE.

Unfortunately for the new Apple TV 3rd Generation, although you are able to watch HD movies at 1080p, you will have to pay for it through iTunes. Per movie is USD4.99 for rental and you will have the option to purchase it at a higher price..

Read my next post for options you can explore if you are willing to pay to extend the features of your ATV.

OS X Mountain Lion

Gua Ka Lu - What does it means?

Gua Ka Lu is a hokkien words and it means I teach you. How do I come out with this name? Well, it all thanks to blogger cos all the names I can think of are already taken. So, out of desperation, I use hokkien word.

But why I Teach You? Sounds so rude. Why can't I use a nicer word? Again, its a direct translation from Gua Ka Lu.

Ok. Enough of the definition of the blog name. Some of the reasons I started this blog:

1. Public review of gadgets. (Although I do not own most of them, but as a sharing)
2. My personal review of gadgets. (I make sure I use 1st before doing a review)
3. Tutorials on how to. ( this can be how to use a program, tips on using your gadgets)
4. Coming soon (Upcoming gadgets that makes one drool)
5. You tell me what you wished to read in my blog. (email me at kokwoe@hotmai.com)

Enjoy and leave your precious feedbacks on my blog ya. I also hope to improve myself. Many thanks in advance.....
